About IBF > History
IBF was launched in 2002 by
The Empowerment Group (TEG), a niche consultancy specialising in intranet best practice and organisational communication. TEG was founded in 1992 by
Paul Miller, also chief executive officer of IBF, and is regarded as one of the UK’s intranet pioneers.
IBF was formed because those running fledgling intranets felt isolated in their roles and faced daunting strategic and day-to-day management challenges. It began as a ‘club’ for intranet managers in the UK to meet with those in similar roles and share their experiences. But instead of simply setting up a forum for informal discussion, we quickly developed an intranet audit methodology that could be applied to each member’s site. This meant discussions of intranet performance were based on clear standards and hard facts.
Membership grew rapidly from 2002, and today more than 70 organisations worldwide are members (see
member list).
