Wow, we survived! Yes 24 hours live online at IBF 24 has come and gone, what a success!
More than 1000 people listened in over 24 hours, from 36 different countries, 544 companies in five different time zones, making it an event to remember. We also counted over 1000 individual tweets throughout the event, with special mention going to Dana Leeson, from BSI Group who stayed awake for the whole 24 hour and led the tweeting throughout!
Kicking off at 12.00 London time were Paul Miller, CEO and Founder of the Intranet Benchmarking Forum (IBF), the man behind the crazy idea of a 24 hour online broadcast along with Paul Levy, IBF Head of Interaction. Starting on a high they introduced Jeff Jarvis, author of bestselling "What would Google do?”
The event then moved on to show live intranet tours from BT, T-Systems, Ernst & Young and Scana during the London centre of gravity. Chris McGrath from Thoughtfarmer injected some humour and gave everyone something to think about with his Intranet Secrets slot.

With six hours covered the London studio handed over the reins to New York where we joined Nancy Goebel, Director of IBF North America, along with co-hosts Giovanni Piazza, formerly with Ernst & Young and Cheryl Lesser at Thomson Reuters. Nokia, GE Healthcare, Deloitte and Comcast and Nationwide insurance all shared live intranet examples, giving attendees an exclusive look behind their firewalls. Spicing up the discussions were John Abell, Bureau Chief at Wired.com, Seesmic’s Loic Le Meur, Yammer’s David Sacks, CM Pros President Scott Liewher and Euan Semple, social computing expert. We also heard from the Women of the Web, Nancy Goebel, Kate Pugh, Suzanne Livingston, Cheryl Lesser discussing opportunities and challenges for women in the digital world. New York finished with a bang, played out by Alicia Keys with Empire State of Mind as the clock struck midnight in London.
Attendees then headed for San Francisco. Andy Jankowski, IBF Director, and PG&E’s Laurel Castiglione and her team provided a lively welcome to California with a beautiful view over San Francisco Bay. They took over in style with a fantastic live tour from William Amurgis at American Electric Power. Other live tours came from PG&E and EMC whilst Eteinne Wenger discussed communities and social learning and Derrick Mains from GreenNurture displayed their unique online platform that deploys internal sustainability initiatives. What was arguably the highlight of the session was Software’s Got Talent where three companies got the opportunity to build an intranet in 20 minutes. Snap, Noodle and Intranet Farmer all did an impressive job with Noodle coming out on top of the audience vote with 56%.
While much of the world was heading for nightfall IBF 24 continued and headed down under to Melbourne with Andrew Fix. In an action packed two hours IBF 24 managed to pack in three live tours from Superpartners, AMP and REA.
So into the home stretch and IBF 24 headed back to London with the sunrise and Paul Miller and Paul Levy fresh from a nap. Highlights of the session were undoubtedly the live tours from Aviva, BBC, and British Airways, some of the most impressive intranets around. The winner of the My Beautiful Intranet competition was also announced, Oxfam are the winners of a shiny new IPad. And so to the end – the team survived and we would like to thank you for your participation.
