IBF has unrivalled expertise in intranet strategy, organisational communication, knowledge management, usability, social media and user experience.

What’s more, we also have first-hand experience of the practical challenges our members are grappling with. That’s because our team of evaluators, researchers and facilitators includes former intranet managers from the BBC, Boots, JPMorgan Chase, London Underground, Rolls-Royce, T-Mobile and Unilever. Paul Miller, CEO and FounderPaul Miller
Chief Executive Officer and Founder

Paul is a technology and social entrepreneur. He founded the Intranet Benchmarking Forum (IBF) in 2002, which is acknowledged to have set the global standards and practice for intranet and workplace technology performance across more than 200 major organisations worldwide. He is the host of Intranets Live, a monthly intranet media show hosted by IBF and also IBF 24, the workplace technology event featuring 24 hours of the world’s best intranets and thought provoking discussion on how work is being redesigned through technology. He recently featured in an article in the Wall Street Journal, discussing the emergence of the digital workplace. In 1997 he wrote the best selling knowledge management handbook "Mobilising The Power Of What You Know" (Random House).

After an early career as a Business Editor and speech writer, Paul founded the influential WAVE magazine in 1990, a fore runner to Fast Company and Wired. He established The Empowerment Group in 1992, pioneering new approaches to communication within major organisations. In 1993 he co-founded the Ideas Cafe; a regular innovation event gathering shaped along social software lines, during the early days of the web.

Paul is also an Advisory Member to the Parent Coaching Academy and was one of the leaders of the innovative "Fathers and Daughters Weekends” in the UK. He is passionate and insightful around the future of work and technology. He is also a writer across various forms: song lyrics, poetry and narratives. He is a keen music follower, plays tennis at competitive level in London and is a devoted practitioner of yoga. He lives in London and has two teenage daughters.
 

Helen Day, Managing DirectorHelen Day
Group Managing Director

As Managing Director, Helen is responsible for member services, including: chairing UK based member meetings, business and team development and benchmarking strategy.

Helen previously worked for Boots, the chemists for 14 years setting up the organisations intranet and becoming Group Intranet Manager in the 1990's. As Group Intranet Manager Helen researched user requirements rolled out a group-wide CMS and portal and implemented a site wide re-design.

Helen won the International Information Industry award for Best Intranet Project 2004 and was runner up European Information Professional of the year 2005. She is regularly invited to speak at conferences.

Nancy Goebel, Director IBF North AmericaNancy Goebel
Managing Director, IBF North America
As Managing Director of IBF North America, Nancy chairs regional member meetings, member support, sales and marketing.

Prior to joining IBF, Nancy was the corporate sector e-Leader at JPMorgan Chase. Nancy has over 18 years of corporate office experience. Nancy led a successful an award-winning intranet team (recognised in the 2007 Nielsen Norman Group Design Annual). Nancy chaired a range the global community of intranet managers and delivered intranet sites and services to enhance workforce productivity.

Mark Silverman, Commercial DirectorMark Silverman
Commercial Director
As Commercial Director, Mark is responsible for analysing and developing the IBF market place globally.

Mark has over 15 years experience supporting small and medium sized enterprises through a range of operational issues. Working with the IBF since 2004, Mark has implemented a number of financial information systems and processes.

Trisha Carmona, PA & Office ManagerTrisha Carmona
PA & Office Manager
Trish supports Paul, Helen & Nancy, as well as leading the IBF HQ office and supplier management. She has a practitioner qualification in Prince II Project Management.

Prior to joining IBF Trish helped another virtual enterprise, PWB Health, grow from a start-up operation. She originally hails from California but has been living in the UK for ten years.

As Sales and Membership Manager, Karen is responsible is responsible for sales process development, reporting, membership management and retention.

Karen has a background in banking and finance with several years experience in marketing and communications, investments, graphic design, project management, sales and advertising.

Director of IBF North America
As Director of IBF North America Representative, Andy is responsible for leading IBF's expansion in the region and working with new members to maximize the return on their IBF investment.

Andy has spent the last 15 years helping Fortune 500 companies more effectively grow and manage their organizations by identifying business needs and orchestrating the appropriate technology and service solutions. He has served as a trusted advisor to both business and technology executives with documented results in the areas of improved process, communication and collaboration.
Benchmarking

Angela Pohl, Benchmarking Program ManagerAngela Pohl
Benchmarking Program Manager
As Benchmarking Program Manager, Angela project manages the IBF benchmarking evaluations, reviews and develops the benchmarking methodology and model.

Angela has a Masters in Business Administration from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. She has worked in various international marketing and consulting roles for global companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, Eli Lilly and Avery Dennison.

Sam Marshall, Usability Benchmarking LeadSam Marshall
Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe
As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe Sam is responsible for the communication & culture, strategy and governance and business value intranet evaluations. Sam is also a part of the IBF team responsible for sales development and growth in the UK region

Sam spent 8 years at Unilever, where until recently he was responsible for the company’s global portal implementation. This involved overseeing the roll out of over 700 online communities to 85,000 people and consolidating several thousand intranets into a single system.

Sam is a regular speaker at international conferences. He has an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MA in Psychology.

Director of Strategy and Governance benchmarking. Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe
As Director of Intranet Strategy and Governance, John is responsible for the strategy and governance intranet evaluations, oversees quality assurance globally and manages a number of related projects including: professional accreditation and training.

John combines this role with a career in academia as Assistant Professor of IS at Warwick Business School. His research focuses on the how intranets become embedded in organisations. Previously, John was at the London School of Economics. Prior to that, John worked 6 years in the industry as Director of New Technologies for the Conservative party during the general election of 2000.

Denise Belling, Usability Benchmarking LeadDenise Belling
Usability Benchmarking Lead, Australasia
As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Australasia, Denise is the usability intranet evaluations.  Denise has been engaged in usability and user experience consulting for over 12 years, and has actively integrated user-centred design methods and activities into full life cycle project deliveries.   Denise is actively involved in the professional industry community, including the international Usability Professionals association, and has been both Vice President and Treasurer of the Australian Chapter.

Sam Chapman, Usability Benchmarking LeadSam Chapman
Usability Benchmarking Lead, North America

 As Usability Benchmarking Lead, North America, Sam is responsible for usability intranet evaluations.  Sam has 10+ years experience transforming company performance in the retail, human resources, software, hardware industries and government by applying Human Factors and User-Centered Design (UCD) principles. Sam has conducted all aspects of customer experience research, including, task analyses, surveys, focus groups, JAD facilitations, participative design, Information Architecture (IA) deliverables and all aspects of usability testing, on-site and remote. And has set-up and managed a number of usability teams. He has a master's degree in Experimental Psychology (Human Factors) and has completed all coursework in a Human Factors PhD program.

Milan GuentherMilan Guenther

As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe, Milan is responsible for usability intranet evaluations.  Milan has over 10 years experience in web and IT related projects, and works as user experience designer and consultant. He has helped organisations and vendors to design various business information systems and enterprise software products. Before working as a designer, Milan co-founded a small software company working on virtual communities and collaborative workspaces. Milan holds a "Diplom-Designer" degree in Communication Design from FH Düsseldorf, and an MBA from the Paris-based Institut Supérieur du Commerce, with a specialisiation on Business Information Systems.

As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe, Mark is responsible for usability intranet evaluations.  Mark has over 15 years in user experience (UX), spanning corporate, government and educational domains.  As well as being a hands-on practitioner, he provides advice and training in all stages of product development.  Clients include a diverse portfolio, such as; Air New Zealand, BSkyB, Citibank, DirectGov and Singtel.  He remains an active member of the UX community with an interest in neuromarketing, trust, information architecture, and social media.

Lou Hewitt, Usability Benchmarking LeadLou Hewitt

As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe, Louise is responsible for usability intranet evaluations.  Louise has spent 10 years working with digital content and user experience, her clients and employers including: Ofsted, Home Office, Oxford University Press, Random House. Louise has researched user behaviour, specified information architectures and designed effective interfaces. Louise is an active member of the community, and speaks on the subject of usability in conferences and classrooms.

Lou Kennedy, Usability Benchmarking LeadLou Kennedy

As Usability Benchmarking Lead, Europe, Louise is responsible for usability intranet evaluations.  A user experience consultant with over 10 years client and agency experience managing web projects and advising corporate clients on strategy, design and information architecture. Louise has worked with a wealth of different clients to improve intranet and internet usability, such as Clifford Chance, 3M, Syngenta and Kimberly Clark.

Paul Johnson, IBF Researcher and WriterPaul Johnson

Paul carries out evaluations in the Communication & Culture area of the IBF benchmarking methodology. He also conducts strategic perspectives interviews that supplement Design & Usability benchmarking. Paul been with IBF since our launch in 2002 and has been involved in more than 100 intranet evaluation and benchmarking exercises. He has also authored and edited several IBF research studies.
Away from IBF, Paul has spent 15 years in corporate communication as a writer and editor. He has helped many big-name companies communicate with their employees, customers, shareholders and other stakeholders. He specialises in writing user-centred intranet and website content.

Kate Pugh, BenchmarkerKate Pugh

Katrina (Kate) Pugh has 16 years of consulting and seven years of industry experience in the healthcare, energy, and financial services sectors. For PwC/IBM Kate led Intranet strategy, then for JPMorgan, Intel, and Fidelity she designed and ran divisional or functional Intranets. Kate has an MS/MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, has a BA in Economics from Williams College. She has certificates in project management, facilitation, mediation, and LEAN Six Sigma. Sample clients include AstraZeneca, Bank of America, Fidelity Investments, Forest Bioproducts Research Institute, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and State Farm Insurance.

David Lucas, IBF report and benchmarking editorDavid Lucas
Report and Benchmarking Editor
As Report and Benchmarking Editor, David is responsible for collating and editing the intranet benchmarking report for each IBF member evaluations. David also produces the IBF league tables for usability.
David is a writer and editor with over 15 years of corporate communications experience. A computer science postgraduate, he has written on business and IT topics for the Times, the Guardian and the Evening Standard and has managed strategic communications projects for a number of FTSE 100 clients.

Suzanne Clarke, report and benchmarking editorSuzanne Clarke
Report and Benchmarking Editor
As Report and Benchmarking Editor, Suzanne is responsible for collating and editing the intranet benchmarking report for each IBF member evaluations. Suzanne also produces the IBF league tables for the management benchmarking evaluations.

Suzanne has worked in various market research, marketing and project manager roles for global companies such as Boehringer-Ingelheim, Yamanouchi and Boots. Suzanne is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Market Research Society.

Interaction and Research

Elizabeth Marsh, Chief Knowledge OfficerElizabeth Marsh
Chief Knowledge Officer
As Chief Knowledge Officer, Elizabeth is responsible for managing the IBF research programme, special interest groups meetings and online services, including the IBF web site and member extranet. Elizabeth is also part of IBF benchmarking team and is directly responsible for facilitatating the exchange of best practice amongst IBF members.

Elizabeth has over eight years’experience designing, developing and managing intranets. Most recently she managed the customer service intranet at T-Mobile, with a strong focus on knowledge management, internal communications and the development of user communities.

Faye Andrews, Marketing and Communications ManagerFaye Andrews
Marketing and Communications Manager
As Marketing and Communications Manager, Faye is responsible for overseeing IBF events, including Intranets Live and co-ordinating marketing and communication initatives across the business.

Faye was previously event and project manager for the International Tennis Federation, was part of the ITF communications team at tennis grand slams and the Beijing Olympics. Faye speaks fluent French, Spanish and some Italian.

Paul Levy, IBF Head of InteractionPaul Levy

As Head of Interaction, Paul facilitates all non US based events including Intranets Live, the annual leadership summit and intra-member meetings.

Facilitator, collusion breaker, writer and occasional actor, Paul has spent the last 15 years working with organisations all over the world on change and transformation, artistry and innovation.

Alice Booth, IBF Event ManagerAlice Booth
Event Manager, Europe

As Event Manager, Alice is responsible for organising a rolling programme of events for IBF Europe members including the quarterly all-tier member meetings.

Alice has a background in theatre having worked primarily as a theatre producer for the Actors of Dionysus. She has organised tours, productions, a range of creative workshop events and assisted with the facilitation of IBF Live in 2006.

Nadine Cooper, Web AdministratorNadine Cooper
Web Administrator

Nadine publishes and updates content on our website and member intranet, such as videos of our monthly Intranets Live. She also administers users for the extranet and Yammer accounts, providing support for those in difficulty!

As Strategic Advisor, Nic assists on an ad-hoc basis with special projects and acts as an IBF ambassador at global intranet events.

Nic has a background in online strategy and user-centered design and was previously intranet manager at the BBC where he headed up the central development team and led the organisation to winning BBC's best intranet 2004, best content 2005 and best usability in 2006 (Nielsen Norman Top 10 Intranets).

As Strategic Advisor, Martin assists on an ad-hoc basis with IBF special projects and acts as an IBF ambassador at global intranet events.

Martin White is Managing Director of Intranet Focus Ltd. He has over 30 years experience in information management, publishing and consulting roles. Prior to setting up Intranet Focus Ltd. in 1999 he held senior management positions in Reed Publishing, International Data Corporation and Logica. Martin consults on the design and management of intranets and extranets, and the specification, selection and implementation of content management software and search software.

Mungo Dunnett, Strategic AdvisorMungo Dunnett
Strategic Advisor
As Strategic Advisor, Mungo assists on an ad-hoc basis with IBF’s marketing, positioning and business development activities.

Mungo runs Mungo Dunnett Associates, a specialist marketing and commercial strategy consultancy. Prior to this he was in senior marketing positions at Logica Consulting, National Australia Bank and Barclays. Originally from Edinburgh, Mungo has also worked as a gardener in Edinburgh, English teacher in Spain, for Robert Maxwell and Rocco Forte in London, and as a blues musician in Chicago.
