In an era of corporate belt-tightening, intranets can play a pivotal role in helping organisations cut costs. Most obviously, they streamline communication and the provision of information, and provide access to selfservice tools that make processes more efficient.
In “12 ways to use your intranet to cut your costs” the IBF present pointers and prominent examples to help intranet managers use their organisation’s intranet to drive savings.
The tips in the paper are drawn from a full-length research report on the use of intranets to achieve organisational cost savings that was commissioned by an IBF member in 2007. The report included detailed case studies on IBF members Nokia and Prudential, and featured dozens of screen shots from the intranets run by these two organisations and by three other members: the BBC, BT and PricewaterhouseCoopers. To protect member confidentiality, detailed case study information, screenshots and other commercially sensitive content is not included in the paper.

About IBF research
The Intranet Benchmarking Forum (IBF) carries out research into best practice in intranet and portal deployment. Covering the hottest topics in the intranet world, the studies we undertake are rooted in practical examples from among IBF member organisations as well as leading non-member companies. The results of this in-depth research act as a basis for decision-making, a source of ideas, and the basis for rich interactions between participants at IBF meetings. Generally, members are given exclusive access to our findings, although we do from time to time make a report available to non-members for a fee.
