Paul is a technology and social entrepreneur. He is CEO and Founder of the Digital Workplace Group, which includes IBF (described by Oracle as “phenomenon in its industry”) and the Digital Workplace Forum. He has been at the heart of the work and technology revolution for the last 20 years.
He is the author of “The Digital Workplace: How Technology is Liberating Work”, a Charter Member of the Editorial Council of IBM’s Center for CIO Leadership and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal.
After an early career as a business editor and speech writer, Paul published the influential WAVE magazine in 1990 and established The Empowerment Group (now the Digital Workplace Forum Group Limited) in 1992, pioneering new approaches to communication within major organizations. In 1993, during the early days of the web, he co-founded the Ideas Café, a regular innovation event shaped along social software lines. Paul was also one of the leaders of the innovative “Fathers and Daughters Weekends”.

Since becoming IBF’s first North American team member in 2006, Angela has held a number of roles in the organization, including Benchmarking Programme Manager, Membership Management Director, Client Service Director, IBF 24 Programme Manager, and Executive Producer of IBF Live. As IBF Managing Director, she is passionate about continuously improving the member experience through excellent service, and exploring new ideas for developing the business.
Angela has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from London Business School. Before joining IBF, she worked at Avery Dennison and Bristol Myers-Squibb in the areas of engineering, quality management, marketing and information management.
Based in Ohio, USA, Angela loves experimenting with the mobility and flexibility that the digital workplace allows. She can often be found combining exercise with work at her ‘treadmill desk’, a running machine equipped with a full digital workplace setup. When not working, Angela enjoys being a mother, helping at school, and planning and taking adventures with her family.
Helen is responsible for the management and development of the Digital Workplace Group of businesses, of which IBF is part. Her role includes chairing IBF member meetings in the UK and Europe and developing business strategy along with our customers. She also has overall responsibility for service delivery, team development and core functions such as Finance and IT.
Helen started with IBF as a benchmarker of global member intranets and author of research reports in the areas of communication, strategy and governance. Prior to this, she worked for the UK-based pharmacy chain Boots the Chemists for 14 years, setting up the organization’s first intranet and becoming Group Intranet Manager in the 1990s. She led a project to consolidate seven business intranets – some international – and to roll-out a new group-wide CMS and portal. She also managed a site-wide redesign, which included delivering key intranet content to Boots stores through a point-of-sale interface. Helen won the International Information Industry Award for ‘Best Intranet Project’ in 2004 and was runner-up for the European Information Professional of the Year Award in 2005.
Helen loves working in the flexible digital workplace – mostly from her loft in Nottingham, England – and liaising with colleagues and DWG clients worldwide through the cloud. When not working, she spends much of her time renovating a 1930s house to its former glory and learning how to use all the food its orchard garden produces.

Nancy Goebel, Managing Director, Strategic Partnerships & Business Development, Digital Workplace Group
Nancy is actively involved in managing the IBF member footprint, including new member engagement, chairing benchmarking report-backs and account management. During her five-year tenure with IBF, Nancy has also been involved in other key aspects of service delivery, including conducting benchmarking, research, blogging and executive producing IBF Live for two years and IBF 24 for one.
In parallel with her IBF and DWG roles, Nancy is also Managing Director of the Digital Workplace Forum.
Prior to joining IBF, Nancy was an accomplished executive at JPMorgan Chase. She spent over 18 years in the Corporate Office, where she built and led global high-performance teams in designing an award-winning intranet. She was also responsible for driving multi-million-dollar expense reduction initiatives across the corporate technology and leading successful business re-engineering initiatives.
Outside work, Nancy is an enthusiastic wine maker, fundraiser and meditator. She is also a wife and mother of two.
She is passionate about ‘connecting the dots’ within the community, whether through connecting members to peers or resources, enabling new research opportunities or bringing new organizations into the research programme.
Elizabeth brings over ten years of experience in the fields of intranet and knowledge management to her role in DWG. Her career has included intranet management roles at T-Mobile and Reuters, with broad-ranging responsibilities including community management, internal communications and research.
When not busy in the digital workplace, Elizabeth is a keen writer and musician, playing flute in an amateur orchestra and performing with various local groups.
He has produced several best practice reports, is a regular blogger and provides knowledge management services to IBF and Digital Workplace Forum members.
Steve is also one of IBF’s benchmarking team, specializing in the areas of collaboration, strategy and governance. He researched and was the content producer for Paul Miller’s book ‘The Digital Workplace: How Technology is Liberating Work ’.
Steve launched and managed the global client extranet programme at BDO, the fifth largest accounting network in the world. During his 13 years there, he played an integral part in two major intranet reiterations, as well as launching a number of other knowledge-related platforms. Steve has recently co-written a book on crowdsourcing with Ross Dawson.
Steve is passionate about being able to work from anywhere, and is occasionally seen in Starbucks with his trusty laptop. When not working, Steve can be found exploring London with his family.

Louise is responsible for co-ordinating all IBF benchmarking evaluations and facilitating our member meetings. She is also a lead usability evaluator, having benchmarked many member intranets and corporate internet sites.
A web usability specialist, Louise has conducted benchmarking, requirements-gathering, user surveys and testing for a range of international clients and managed the roll-out of large web projects, from CMS selection and implementation to creating and enforcing standards and guidelines. She has also written IBF briefing papers on findability topics. Her past clients include the BBC, Syngenta, PUMA and 3M.
Louise loves the mountains and has been known to take conference calls whilst tied to the rock face. She can often be found on a new indoor climbing wall installed at her office in Somerset, England, where she keeps fit in between scheduling benchmark evaluations and writing emails.
John is a benchmarking specialist at IBF and also an academic at Warwick Business School, where he has spearheaded the teaching of digital work at MBA and MSc level. On joining IBF in 2005 he helped create and manage the IBF benchmarking model, as well as benchmarking many member organizations. He has also played a key role in designing appropriate methods and overseeing the consistency and quality of benchmarking results and reports.
John has written several scientific articles on aspects of digital work, one of which was judged the best paper of 2010 by the Association of Information Systems.
He has two kids and lives in Oxford, England with his family. He loves exercising (just don’t ask him to run the Hellrunner ever again) but is just as happy talking about computers and geeky stuff.
Chris is an intranet and digital workplace consultant and lead benchmarker for IBF in the Management Benchmarking Areas. He is also an analyst, blogger and research associate across the Digital Workplace Group of businesses. As well as publishing research papers on operational intranets and intranet measurement, he has been working with the Digital Workplace Forum on developing models for mapping and measuring digital workplaces.
Working with intranets since 1996, in and out of IT and Communications departments, Chris was formerly responsible for intranet strategy and architecture at Orange SA and France Telecom Group, where he helped deliver bilingual intranets to 200,000 colleagues.
His work interests include governance, strategy, metrics, flexible and co-working, the future of work and the intersection of technology with just about everything.
In real life, Chris lives in Brighton, England with his family and takes photography too seriously. He occasionally twitters @christubb.
Andrew is a benchmarking evaluator specializing in intranet management areas such as strategy, governance, communication and collaboration. He has also authored IBF research papers on enterprise adoption of social and collaborative tools, the use of taxonomies and folksonomies, and managing risk in the digital workplace. Andrew is passionate about understanding how people work with technology and how their experience of the digital workplace can be improved.
Andrew has specialized in internet and intranet development for over ten years. He is an independent consultant, with experience in the insurance, publishing, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Before joining IBF he was responsible for intranet strategy and development at the UK-based healthcare provider, Bupa, where he implemented a number of pioneering social and collaboration initiatives.
Outside work, Andrew is a husband, a father of two boys, and loves flying aircraft of any description.
Louise is in charge of the training and quality assurance component of IBF’s usability benchmarking and of driving the development of the benchmarking model to keep pace with current workplace trends and member requirements. She has written a forward-looking assessment of usability in the workplace, ‘New Directions in Usability’, and regularly attends member meetings to share benchmarking findings and provide insights into usability and user experience issues.
Louise has been at the forefront of user experience development in the UK for several years, working with leading brands such as O2, Sony Ericsson and Random House to deliver a diverse range of online services, from Facebook applications and e-book readers to e-commerce sites and search platforms. Before joining IBF, she was team leader for online services at Ofsted, the UK government agency tasked with inspecting schools and educational and care services.
With two small children and an enthusiastic puppy, Louise is a dedicated free-range worker, combining playground visits and walking on the beautiful South Downs near her home in Eastbourne, England, with report writing and user evaluations across international time zones.
